About Our Pastor

Pastor J. Malcolm Phipps Jr. is the eldest son of Pastor J. Malcolm Phipps and Mrs. Leola M. Phipps, and is a fourth generation Seventh-day Adventist minister. Pastor Phipps graduated from Oakwood University in 1979 with a B.A. degree consisting of a major in History and a double minor in Religion and Secondary Education. From 1979 until 1985, he taught in the school system of the Southwest Region Conference of Seventh-day Adventist, located in Dallas, Texas at City Temple Jr. Academy and in Hammond, Louisiana at Emanuel Jr. Academy where he served as principal.

In the fall of 1985, he answered the call to the gospel ministry by resigning his position as principal and moved his family to Keene, Texas. While in Keene, Texas he completed a major in Theology from Southwestern Adventist University. While still matriculating, he was extended the incitation to pastor the New Hope SDA Church in Killeen, Texas from January of 1987 until October of 1989. He reassigned to Berean SDA Church in Muskogee, Oklahoma in November 1989. Love’s Chapel Church in Fort Smith, Arkansas and Friendship SDA Church in McAlester, Oklahoma was added to his district in 1992. He was assigned to the Philadelphia and Cedar Grove churches of Shreveport, Louisiana in January 1996. He remodeled the Philadelphia Church and built a new Cedar Grove. In January of 2001, Pastor Phipps was assigned to Emmanuel SDA Church of Cleburne, Texas, there he remodeled the church and the Mount Lebanon SDA Church of Waco, Texas, he built a new church. Pastor Phipps married Carolyn Moses in 1994.  Carolyn Moses Phipps holds a Masters Degree in Organization Management and a specification in Conflict Resolution from Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, Texas. She is active in Women’s Ministry, Community Service, Deaconess and Children Story Hour.  Pastor and Mrs. Phipps were assigned to lead the Bethel SDA Congregation, Tulsa, Oklahoma in August 2011.  

They have four children Jeniese Michelles, Jenae’ Marie, Sherman Alexander, and Brandon Wayne, and three grandchildren, Elaine Marie, Damon and Ian Wayne.
